Unhoused: Personal Stories and Public Health by Leah den Bok & Willie Baronet
(Art installation by Willie Baronet)
“Unhoused: Personal Stories and Public Health” —now showing at the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadephia—confronts the crisis of housing insecurity in America through the lens of public health and centers the voices of those experiencing homelessness in sharing their stories.
This special exhibition is anchored by stark yet intimate black and white portraiture from Toronto-based photographer Leah den Bok as well as a monumental artwork from Dallas-based artist Willie Baronet whose installation is composed of hundreds of cardboard signs the artist has purchased over the past thirty years from people experiencing homelessness. Featuring the content expertise of Dr. Rosie Frasso and Dr. René Najera, this exhibition explores the difficult truth that simply being without a home is a dangerous health condition.
The exhibition highlights organizations dedicated to addressing housing insecurity in Philadelphia and beyond.
