An ever-growing number of healthcare professionals are now blowing the whistle to expose UnitedHealth Group’s infamous intimidation tactics and United Healthcare’s notorious disregard
A note from the editor of THE FINE PRINT | April 11, 2024
Dear Readers:
THE FINE PRINT global health magazine regularly publishes Health Humanities, photojournalism features and accountability stories twice monthly.
Due to the historic nature of UnitedHealth Group’s Optum/Change Healthcare cyberattack, our network of reporters, investigative journalists, photojournalists, physicians and healthcare professionals nationwide are working 24/7 to bring you original reporting, copublished coverage and republished articles to educate the Public about the scope and scale of harm being imposed by UnitedHealth Group on physicians, clinic operators, behavioral health clinics and patients in the wake of the February cyberattack.
We will return to our usual publishing schedule when all aspects of this crisis are addressed and the individuals who are responsible face the legal consequences. UnitedHealth Group is currently being investigated by the United States Department of Justice, Health and Human Services and the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law for White Collar Crime.
An ever-growing number of healthcare professionals are now blowing the whistle to expose UnitedHealth Group’s well known intimidation tactics and United Healthcare’s notorious disregard.
At this time, the situation continues to escalate and the disregard by UnitedHealth Group’s senior management and board of directors is imposing financial, emotional and mental health distress on some of the most dedicated healthcare professionals—not only in the state of Minnesota—but across the United States.
Today, Star Tribune reporter Chris Snowbeck published a story about the ever-worsening impact of UHG’s business practices on physicians and patients since the cyberattack was announced. (See article below. *Subscription required.)
We’ll continue publishing breaking news, lawsuit updates and action being taken by physicians to push back on UnitedHealth Group and stop CEO Andrew Witty from continuing these tactics.
All the while, once again, who is being harmed the most by the tactics and practices of the UnitedHealth Group? Patients in need and ethical medical professionals.
There will be much more to come on this in THE FINE PRINT this month including an exclusive essay written by Dr. Linda Peeno about Harm-for-Profit and Denial of Care.
Thank you for reading,
Kimberly J. Soenen

Twin Cities Counseling says it hasn't been able to submit payment claims for more than 100 appointments — resulting in thousands of dollars in missing reimbursements — since UnitedHealth Group took down the claims processing system at its Change Healthcare division to contain the IT threat.
Because of the billing mess, Twin Cities Counseling couldn't cover its payroll in March, the lawsuit says. Additionally, recently hired therapy providers at the clinic haven't been able to transition their patients to the practice.
